Charged twice for showtime

I went to look on my subscriptions on my Apple ID and I saw showtime on there twice. I guess once in the Apple TV app and once in the showtime app? Not sure how that works and it seems very confusing and bad for the consumer. Has this happened to anyone and how do I get a refund for this oversight apple has created? They should notify you of a duplicate subscription.

They should notify you of a duplicate subscription.

You did sign up for each one, and you did get a confirmation email for each one started.

You can cancel the one that you no longer want. If you want to cancel a subscription from Apple - Apple Support.

You’ll have to make a choice between using the Showtime app or the Apple TV app channel.

If you think you qualify for a refund for the last started one, then you can request that as outlined here: Request a refund for apps or content that you bought from Apple - Apple Support.

Thanks for your reply but I think you are missing the point. I was billed twice for the same thing and that is an error. It’s like owning a video game. I understand you could have the same game on two different systems like ps4 or Xbox. If I went to buy a game on Xbox I already had it will notify me I already own the title. This was all on apple’s ecosystem and they charged me twice for same thing with no difference in content.

They are separate subscriptions. Apple has partnered with providers to host their subscriptions directly in their TV app, they are then hosted on Apple's servers and come with things like family sharing and offline viewing. The providers also have those subscriptions offered directly through their app (which can still have the option to integrate with Apple's TV app for 'up next' queue).

You were not billed twice, as it is not the same charge but rather a separate subscription that you would have had to initiate. The same would apply if you separately subscribed to Amazon's channels and a direct subscription.

You can still feel free to request a refund, and explain the situation.

Thank you for your response. So are you saying that Apple designed this process to confuse and mislead consumers? Other companies like Microsoft have quality systems in place to ensure this does not happen as they understand consumers do not want to spend their money on duplicate content. This does seem like an error on Apple's part as I am sure they do not want consumers to be stuck in these situations but they apparently do not have the expertise or care about the consumer? Am I correct in your assessment? Also can you explain what is different in these subscriptions? I do not know what I am getting from one that is different from another if it is all the same shows on my Apple TV device?

Hardly. Apple created a system within their TV app where they have partnered with providers so they can host their content and have an option for consumers who want to use one app to access content. It is very clear that this is a separate subscription from the one that is offered directly from the provider.

As stated Amazon also offers their own channels and the same would apply there, as would it if Microsoft offered a channel system where they host content from 3rd party party providers within a central app.

Bottom line is you subscribed to a service under two distinct platforms without thinking it through, you can realize what happened and take the time to explain the situation to get a refund. If you'd rather not and just rant then that is your choice. However, I will now be bowing out of this discussion. Have a good day.
