I have 2022 M2 macbook air and 2020 M1 macbook air, both had optimized battery charging working perfectly prior to the last update to 13.3.1, now it hasnt work .
its switched on for both devices. ive waited several weeks. tried shutting down at end of day.
any ideas what could be wrong? any ideas how to 'get it to learn' faster? been 3 weeks.

To start, you'll want to add more detail to your post on what's going on with the optimized charging. How is it not working? Is the charge not turning off (lightning bolt stays on the battery icon) after the charge has reached 100%? Is the battery not fully charging to 100%? Etc.
Details like these will help give the community a better understanding of what exactly you're seeing so members can provide more relevant responses.

Please use the steps below to isolate the issue a bit..
Restart your Mac in safe mode and see which icon shows when you charge your Mac: How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support We want you to be aware that restarting in safe mode may take a bit longer than usual since it prevents some software from loading and does a check of your startup disk. You may also see some graphic anomalies on your screen as well.
Whether or not it happens in safe mode, restart your Mac normally to exit. If it showed the right icon in safe mode, see if it also shows after the normal restart.
If the issue happened while in safe mode or reappeared after a normal restart, create a new user account on your Mac. Once it’s created, log out of your own account then into the new one and test the issue there: Add a user or group on Mac - Apple Support

it fully charges, the optimized charging function holds the charge at 80% charge as you know, this has a vertically-oriented plug icon when its working. this macbook air M2 was doing that just fine until the last software update.
Now, even with optimized battery charging switched on, it ONLY charges to 100% with the lightning icon , instead of the vertical-plug icon.
again, to be clear so you arent confused, I want the optimized charging on and holding the charge when plugged in all day at 80%.
I tried rebooting in safe mode, issue persisted.
then, I created an additional user, issue persisted.
plugging the apple-included charge cable with apple-included wall adapter WITH the optimized charging turned on, still displays the lightning-bolt icon on the battery, NOT the plug icon that keeps the macbook air M2 optimized at 80% charge which is what I want.
any other ideas? is an update to this Ventura MacOS version needed?

At this point, we'd advise you to contact Apple Support, so they can look at this further. Let them know the troubleshooting you've done so far, and that you're using the latest macOS Ventura version of 13.3.1.

Hello - having the same issue with two MacBook Pros (16" Pro & 16" Max). Tried the troubleshooting above and no change. Both are always powered by an Apple Studio Display and have always been around 80% until this update.
Opened a ticket with Support and am waiting for a follow up.
Will post any updates.
It seems on many issues this Apple-sponsored forum is... well - it's USELESS!
Esp folks like "Community Specialist", Jaym_8, who scolds the OP for "not providing enough detail". What an absolute joke.
