Create a simple manuscript with chapters in Pages

I’m obviously not very much into editing documents and more of an artist when it comes to using computers etc, but I’m still very much into writing. The problem is just that I’ve never learnt to use text editors and I find them unintuitive and clumsy to work with, although Pages seems to be much better than Words, at least. Still, it seems to be very much office-oriented and layout and not so much into the art of writing in itself. What I’m missing is some simple tutorial how to create a simple manuscript with chapters. First of all, I don’t find the term ‘chapter’ in any of the instructions, FAQs and/or tools. Why isn’t there such a simple option as Add New Chapter?

I found a book template (and yes, I prefer writing on the iPad) but no such option there either.

Now, I don’t expect anyone to give me a full tutorial covering this, but if you know of one, please tell. Or even a template with such a simple option. And mind you, I’m not interested in creating a book, but just writing a manuscript, separated in chapters. To be sent to editors in hope of being accepted for publishing.

Something very simple in other words. For the rest of us…

The term you might be looking for is possibly "sections".

Or, you could simply create the next chapter by adding "Chapter 2" and then continuing writing. With proper formatting, you could use those chapter titles to create a table of contents.

You can certainly let Apple know your thoughts on the matter here:

For what it's worth, Word doesn't seem to have such a feature, either. It's possible that some of the applications designed specifically for writing book manuscripts, such as Scrivener or Ulysses would have that sort of feature.
