Apple Classical not ready for prime time

For 17 years I’ve worked for Apple as a software trainer and product usability specialist. I can confidently say I know what every button in every piece of Apple software does for the past 15 years. I have 10 Apple Certifications including Logic pro, Final cut, and motion. I also have a PhD in music.

Problems:

Playlists do not always work. I have downloaded the Faure songs, complete, the Cyrille Dubois recording. It plays the first 15 songs or so and then reverts to the beginning. I have deleted the album from the library added it again to a playlist it does the same. Try it yourself. Playing from the album works fine.

Albums deemed “Classical“ have come over from Apple Music. Including Charlie Parker and other random jazz albums. I see no way to delete these albums from Apple Classical

Occasionally what shows at the bottom of the screen in the little “play” window is not what is actually playing. Not sure why.

The “play next” window does not follow the playlist. Not sure why.

I have tried everything recommended in these forums and at present I am just another frustrated customer. If someone has a fix for any of these that I have not tried I am certainly always willing to learn more.

It just seems like a buggy app at present. Metadata related.

Thanks for posting in the Apple Support Communities vibrance2,

The following page offers some general troubleshooting steps that might be helpful: If an app on your iPhone or iPad stops responding, closes unexpectedly, or won’t open

Providing some additional detail and context may increase the chance that members of the community are able to provide a specific and helpful response.

To start, which device or devices are you encountering these issues on?

How was music added to your library? Was it imported to a computer and synced to the iOS device, purchased from iTunes, added from Apple Music, or added another way?

Is your music primarily downloaded, or do you usually stream?

We'll look forward to hearing back from you!

Thank you mikeg

I’ve worked Apple AHA both phones and chat and I know how it works. I do appreciate the boilerplate.

You can add the Faure songs album to a new playlist in the Classical App. The Cyrille Dubois recording. There are 103 songs. Try to play “Au cimetiere” Op 51. The playlist reverts to the first track.

Also: how can I prevent playlists from Apple Music showing up in Apple classical? As my post states, random jazz playlists and albums from Apple Music are showing up in the Classical app and there appears to be no way to delete the several non-classical albums that appear there.

I am on iPhone 14 Pro, iOS 16.4. Just so I’ve covered all the bases- I’ve restarted the phone, I’ve restarted the app. I’ve reinstalled the app. Problems persist.
