Make ipad associate .docx file with word

In file manager, whenever i click on a .docx file (located anywhere), it always uses pages to open the file.. frustrating and maddening. I need it to chose word to open the file.

I’ve seen this question asked multiple times and no one has given a proper answer.

so to expedite things, i will give information the following info in advance

i have word installed on ipad
Opening word and then opening the file does not change the file association. Next time i click on file in file manager, it still uses pages to open the file.

Does someone know how to force the ipad to associate .docx files with word?

Hey wesley nurse,

We’re assuming you’re using the Files app to store your Word documents? Find files on your iPhone or iPad in the Files app - Apple Support

If we’re correct, you can open your *docx file with the Word app by going to the document in the Files app, holding your finger on the name or file thumbnail. Next, select “Share", and select the Word app from the list.

Since there isn’t a way to associate files in the Files app (except for Apple apps such as Pages), you can let Apple know you’d like this feature. Apple does appreciate all feedback regarding our products, services, and features.
