Finder>Settings>Sidebar keeps losing Desktop selected

My Finder sidebar frequently stops displaying Desktop as an option. If I go to the settings and reselect it, the Desktop shows up for a while then disappears again.

I also posted another new, strange event - my trackpad has started clicking suddenly, and I do not have a settings option to quiet it. I mention this wondering if I have some kind of hardware issue?

Hey there jedvorace,

We'd like to help by learning more about what's happening, along with ruling out some possible causes:

  1. Is 'Desktop' one of the options already with a checkmark if you go to Finder > Settings > Show these items in the sidebar > Favorites?
  2. If you already have 'Desktop' with a checkmark, when did this start to occur in Finder?
  3. When did the clicking start with the built-in trackpad?
  4. Sometimes unexpected behavior can be resolved with a restart. Check out the section ‘Restart your Mac' here: Shut down or restart your Mac
  5. Since you have a compatible Mac model, the latest version is macOS 13.3. You can verify this by clicking on the Apple logo at the top left corner of the screen, then on ‘About This Mac’. In case you needed it, this link shows how to first back up, then Update macOS on Mac.

Cheers!
