Computer restarted because of a problem.

Hello,

I'm running a Mac Pro 2019 with MacOS Ventura, a couple of mechanical HD and SSD attached. The SSD's are installed via a Sonnet M.2 4x4 Silent PCIe Card.

Unfortunately my computer keeps restarting as some users have reported here already.

Since 2 years I'm trying to located the issue with no success.

I have got a AMD Radeon Pro W5700X 16 GB installed as a graphic card and use Video/Music and Photo software like Pro Tools Ultimate, DaVinci Resolve or Adobe Lightroom.

I would like share a Problem report to see if someone of you could analyse it. It is a mega long list with data:

I have reinstalled the entire software to get rid of very old files as I have got Time Machine back ups with many very old files and software, drivers etc. to make sure they not causing issues. And as far I know Pro Tools Ultimate is the the only software using a kext in the background now (com.digidesign.iokit.DigiDal)

In safe mode the computer seems to run stable so it looks like some of my third party software, or maybe it AMD Radeon Pro W5700X 16 GB causing issues?

I had countless Phone calls with Apple, followed all their advices but the issue is very hard to locate. Always when thinking that I have localised the issue its keeps restarting randomly again.

I have read that some users have replaced the graphic card W5700X 16 GB with a Radeon Vega and the problem has disappeared. Is there anyone who had similar experiences?

Thanks for any help here.

If it works in Safe Mode, it is very likely the kext as they are disabled. It could be an interaction with the kext and the video card. Other things get disabled besides third-party kexts in Safe Mode, so it could just be the video card. I don’t have any personal experience, but posts here over the years seem to indicate the Mac Pros are finicky about video cards.

Thank you, interesting! I didn’t know that. Yes it seems to break down to the graphic card. In safe mode I have realized that the typing or moving the mouse pointer is very slow. But it definitely don’t freeze and restart. But in normal mode with all software uninstalled the restart persist, sick! But on the other hand, I have got second start up drive configured with no third party software installed. Guess what happen: it’s stable 🙈.

Sure, but with my initial drive it does still restart randomly after uninstalling all third party apps and bring it back to the “default“ state. I’m asking myself if there are some other files left after uninstalling all third party apps which might be the potential source of the conflict. I had never in my life such a weird experience before.

I have also erased the drive and reinstalled macOS Ventura previously and reinstalling all apps manually to make sure that I haven't got any old drives reloaded over my Time Machine back up. So I have started also I a new Time Machine back up. After roughly 7 days the computer shows same behaviour with randomly restarting because of a problem. Therefor I thought if it is possible to analyse the report which I have attached to my first post. Is it not this report which shows the error and which could help to determine whether it is a app or the graphic card causing the problem? Unfortunately the only one can do is to send this report anonymously to apple but they regret to talk about it on the phone support.

The only person that would have any idea what the kernel panic log actually means is the person that wrote the kernel extension that crashed. There are hints in a kernel panic log you can use to try and isolate the problem, but you need to take it to an Apple store or authorized service center to figure out what actual hardware fault caused the panic. The people at Apple care are not software, engineers, or hardware engineers.
