Unable to read another Mac's hard dish when using Disk-Share

I have 2 Macs, an M1 Mini and an M1 Studio. Both are connected with an Apple brand Thunderbolt cable (Thunderbolt, not the power cable that came with the machine).

When I place either mach into Disk-Share mode, the replacement for Target Disk Mode, the host machine sees that the slave is connected, however I'm unable to go beyond the "Macintosh Hard Drive" folder. Anything I do from the point on, whether I try to enter that folder or log in as myself (opposed to a guest), it just tries and tries and fails to connect.

When I'm not using Disk-Share, I can share files perfectly between the machines, so it appears my permissions are set correctly. I want to use Disk Share to take advantage of the higher speeds of Thunderbolt 4, and my understanding this this is the only way to do it.

Software is up to date on both machines, 13.2.1

Please advise. TYVM!!!
