Multiple homepod mini connectivity

I recently purchased several HomePod minis to have audio around the house. It worked great for a couple days but now i have the following problems

1. i can’t seem to get more than 1 at a time to play in sync
2. my devices can’t consistently connect to the minis
3. my devices say the minis are connected but no audio comes out of the minis
4. my device will connect to the mini then a completely different song or playlist will start

The only thing that gets audio coming out of the device is to unplug and plug but even then it only lasts about a day and they still can’t connect in multiple rooms.

I guess i am confused because Apple products are supposed to “just work.” It seems i had better multi-room audio with IKEA Symfonisk speakers. I hope this is just some glitch that can be fixed before i have to decide to return these devices.
