Shortcut App and Notes integration

I have scanned PDFs I want to share to a shortcut to process them further. However, when sharing from the share sheet that props up when I click on the share button in the Notes app for my shortcut it does not receive the file.

This can be verified when scanning anything in a notes, opening it and pressing on the share button in the top right. Simply share it with a Shortcut that displays the content graph.

Sharing a PDF from Files works as expected, but from the Notes app the graph is simply empty.

Addendum: It is possible to first save the files to the Files app, however this is impractical as the scanned PDFs are usually simply called Scanned Document.pdf which causes name collisions as well as not being practical to scroll through.

I read this on another forum when looking for the answer, it was not responded there either.

Hi there Daniel PF,

You'll want to start by making sure you're arranging the actions in your shortcut properly for them to work. Have a look at the information below to find out more:

The key to building a shortcut is arranging actions in the right order so that they properly accomplish the task at hand. As you use Shortcuts, you’ll notice that many shortcuts follow a similar pattern of actions:
* Get actions: The first actions bring content into the shortcut. See About get actions in Shortcuts on iPhone or iPad.
* Transform actions: The middle group of actions in a shortcut transform the content into a different format. See About transform actions in Shortcuts on iPhone or iPad.
* Share actions: The final actions in a shortcut often share data with a service or launch data in another app. See About share actions in Shortcuts on iPhone or iPad.
These aren’t hard-and-fast rules, of course. Many shortcuts omit one or more of these action types. But keeping the get-transform-share order of actions in mind can help you build more efficient shortcuts.

You'll find this information here: Order of actions in Shortcuts on iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

For details about your options for sharing, have a look at this guidance:

File-related share actions include Save File and Save to Photo Album. In some cases, share actions can append data to existing files, namely the Append to Note action and some third-party actions. You can search for file-related share actions using the keyword save.
