macOS - News App - huge size in storage

Hi - I'm on a MacBook Air 2020 M1 with the latest macOS (13.2.1).

In clicking on System Preferences, General, Storage - I was surprised to see that Applications was taking up so much space - so I clicked on that line item.

Sorting by size, the News app (listed as Kind: System) is listed at 9.29GB - which seems... huge. I opened the app and checked its settings... Automatic Downloads is already toggled OFF. And if I click on News+ to the left, then Downloads - nothing is there. So I can't imagine how this one app is taking up nearly 10GB of storage.

If you look up the app itself via finder, it's only 12MB in size or something - so this must be some sort of cache or..? And not that I'd want to, but there isn't an option to Delete the app either.

How can I find out what's going on and get that space back? Thanks!

Then user may start by the 4 Steps below to clear the System Cache files.

1 - Restart in Safe Mode. This will perform a Disk Repair, clear cache files and only load Apple Software, extensions and fonts. The boot up will be slow and can take some time - Normal.

2 - Safe Mode will also eliminate Third Party Software, extensions and drivers from loading. It will only load the Minimum amount of Core Apple Processes to allow the the computer to function at a reduced Level of Performance

3 - Does the issue present in this mode ?

4 - Sometimes a Safe Boot followed by a Normal Boot will just put things right.

These files will be recreated ask the system requires them.

Further, to clean up the New Application Cache files specifically

In Finder >> Go and Hold the OPTION Key which will reveal your normally hidden Library folder in your Home Folder ( User Account )

The navigate to Caches Folder and look for and as per image below

Check the More Info by using the Command Key click on each " cache " files to examine the file Size
