Smart Invert doesn't work as expected on iPhone

Due to vision problems, I prefer black background always. Smart invert acts very stupid; images are often inverted, and most times there are white screens that “Flash” just before the dark screen comes live. I have to try to look away. I’ve tried various configurations of dark mode, smart invert, dark wallpaper, etc…. How can I get dark backgrounds, always? Thanks
