how do i report scammers posing as Apple Support

I was researching articles on graphic design for an assignment and was told I was locked to an attempt by someone trying to access my computer and to call Apple Support at 1-833-915-****. The lady barely spoke English and when I asked for her credentials she hung up on me. I called back and the man who answered barely spoke English as well. He asked if I was on PC or Mac and I said if I reached Apple Support you would know that and Apple Support does not service PCs (Windows). I told him I would be reporting him and he hung up on me.

How do I report scammers claiming to be Apple Support?

Scamming you out of money is very big business and for every scammer who is actually caught, a hundred new ones appear. Mostly out of country and, unless the scam causes major damages, law enforcement is not able to track everyone of them. If you were actually scammed, you can file a report at https://www.ic3.gov which is a collaboration of law agencies working on internet crime. Apple could not do a thing anyway.

Good for you on identifying a scam!!

As a fellow Apple user, I am proud of you! 👋🏼😁

Unfortunately, unless you have received an email or text message from the scammer, there is nothing you can do because most of those scams originate from another country and out of jurisdiction.

Remember:

If you receive a suspicious email or SMS text message that looks like it's supposed to be from Apple, please email it to reportphishing@apple.com. 

Recognize and avoid phishing messages, phony support calls, and other scams.

Hello ~ Where are you seeing these scams? Online? Texts? Email? If you are online you must be extremely careful about the links you visit. Many impersonate Apple to try and gain your personal information such as Apple ID ,credit card info and passwords. As *babowa* wisely stated it’s big business. The following is an Apple link that provides their contact numbers…

How to Contact Us - Apple

The pop up that you received was attempting to gain your close it and ignore it. Report as many as you can and go forward. Unfortunately it’s probably going to only get worse.
