Unable to connect to mail server message

Several times a day I get an " unable to connect to mail server" message. All incoming emails stop sometimes for several hours before later resuming. Meanwhile I'm getting the emails to the same inbox address on my

laptop. Can't figure out how to correct this problem. Suggestions?

Thanks for your response. I had previously tried all the fixes you suggested but for removing my email account and setting it up again. That seems to have generally worked. I say that because while it has markedly improved the performance of inbox email loading from the server (from overnight), there are still random points throughout the day when the "unable to connect to email server" message re-appears and any email loading stalls-out for a while.

Use a New App Password for Each Device:

Do you use an App Password? If so, try a new App Password. Create a unique on for each device. Remove the current one, and then use the new one instead. Sometimes, changes (i.e. updates) are made to the device, and then mail server syncing becomes an issue (which is what a new App Password it intended to fix).
