iPad screen became erratically unresponsive after iOS 16.3.1 update.

I updated my 3rd gen iPad Air to iOS 16.3.1 a few days ago and my touchscreen has begun to malfunction. It only responds to touch the way it is supposed to about half the time. Sometimes if I rotate the device it becomes usable, or if I use the home button to close an app and reopen it will work again. Sometimes one part of the screen seems to stop responding while other parts work. Have tried all the previously suggested tricks and tips but no luck.
