Guangzhou Shizhen Information Technology Co., Ltd.

In my "Allow in the Background" apps on my Mac, there is an app called "Guangzhou Shizhen Information Technology Co., Ltd." I tried searching for the app online but can't find any valid information other than an app called Maxhub which I haven't installed on my computer. It also doesn't show up anywhere in "Applications" or on the Launchpad.

What is it? Where did it come from? Is a malicious? How do I uninstall it?

Hi etresoft,

Thanks for the help. Having an unknown app from a Chinese company on my Mac makes me very nervous regarding security. Is this app spying on my?

I guess my question is how can I find more informaiton about what it is and what it is doing. Can I find out what processes it's associated with and trace it to an app or specific driver? Can I find out when it was installed? Is there as least more information on a website somewhere that will explain it's function?

Let Use " collectively " help with etresoft 👍 🇨🇦 suggestion

Download the Application Etrecheck directly from the Developer.

This is a Diagnostic Tool that makes no changes to the computer.

It makes a coherent and readable inventory of both the Hardware and Software used on the computer

The application is free or paid from added features.

It is probably that Maxhub app or something very similar. Many companies produce the same "white label" driver software for different products.

Where did it come from?

Is that a trick question? It came from Guangzhou Shizhen Information Technology Co., Ltd. 😄

It's a large Chinese electronics company: http://www.cvte.com/en/about/index.html

Is a malicious?

Not in the least.

How do I uninstall it?

The first question should be is "do you need it?" It was obviously installed as part of some software install. It is most likely a driver for some kind of external device. If you remove it, that device will probably stop functioning. This is also true if you use that new Ventura user interface to disable it.

It is always a good idea to know what software is running on your computer and why. But don't attempt to uninstall anything in that dialog without finding out more first. Sometimes this kind of software is impossible to uninstall unless you do it properly.

No. It's not.

Don't believe everything you read on the news and the internet. China is many times over the world's largest producer of electronic equipment. If you stripped all the Chinese parts and software from your Mac, you would have very little left.

I guess my question is how can I find more informaiton about what it is and what it is doing. Can I find out what processes it's associated with and trace it to an app or specific driver? Yes. Unfortunately, my best suggestion is an app I wrote myself. The forum rules do not allow me to post links to my app.

Apple's new user interface in Ventura is not very helpful. It only displays the developer name for certain apps and only in certain situations. The developer name is embedded deep into a security certificate. You wouldn't be able to find it by searching your Mac.

This is a well-known company with apps in the App Store. It isn't malware and it isn't dangerous.
