Transferring photos to a Windows PC

Is there a reliable way to copy photos off of an iPhone or iPad to a Windows 10

PC? I have tried numerous times and in different ways to copy the pictures to

my PC but always encounter errors of one type of another. I have tried using

Photos and it imports 10 pictures and then reports an unknown error has occurred

or something similar. I have then tried using file explorer and simply

highlighting the DCM folder on the iPhone and selecting copy and then go to my

hard drive and select paste. Sometimes it will copy for several minutes while

other times it stops after only a few minutes and I get a message saying the

device has disconnected or the device is not accessible or an error has occurred

or a device attached to the system is not functioning. I have a new laptop and

an old one and have tried both my iPhone and iPad on both computers. I had a

new Apple cable still in the box with the iPad I bought and tried it to

eliminate any cable issues.

I then decided to do just a few folders at a time which seemed to work reasonably

well for the first little bit and then realized it had only copied 6 or the 8

folders I had selected to copy. I reselected the two it did not copy and copied

them. One seemed to copy really quickly so thought I would make sure it copied

all of the pictures and it had copied the 4 pictures that were in the folder

but did not copy the one video that was in that same folder. So even when it

seems to copy a folder and it's contents it doesn't always copy the entire

contents and I don't have time to try to go through every folder to compare it

to the iPhone or iPad to make sure it copied the entire contents. After using

this procedure for a while all of a sudden it says the device was not

accessible or that the device was disconnected or one of the messages listed

above, I don't recall for sure. I then unplugged the USB cable and plugged it

back in and it makes the usual alert tone when you unplug a USB device or plug

in a USB device but it did not show up in file explorer. I rebooted the

computer but it still did not see the phone.

I also tried copying the pictures off my iPad using essentially the same

procedure and got the same results on both of the computers I have so it

doesn't seem it is a device specific issue or a PC specific issue but something

in the operating system?

I would sure appreciate some assistance or any suggestions where I can simply

select what I want copied and know that it actually copied what I selected

without going and checking each individual folder or without having to sit and

babysit it the entire time it is copying.

Thank you

Sorry I have been away for a bit. Still trying to get the photos copied off. The error I get about 90% of the time says - The requested value cannot be determined - and you press ok and the copying stops. Sometimes even just copying one folder at a time will do this and when I open a folder that was copied to my laptop sometimes not all the files that were in the original folder were copied even when there is no errors and the copying seems to end normally. I have also received the error when trying to copy only a few files and not the whole folder . Then I can highlight 6 or 8 folders and it will copy them with no problem. Doesn’t seem to be any rhyme nor reason to when it gives this error and stops copying.

That is really odd. I have a Mac and a PC and I can import photos to both. I can also copy from the iPhone folders directly into Finder and/or File Explorer with no issues. Some thoughts:

Do you have the latest version of iTunes?

Is Windows up to date?

Same for the iOS devices?

I would try a Forced Restart of your iOS devices, it resolves many issues.
