Transferring photos from iPhone to PC fails on certain photos

Hello. I have weird issues when trying to copy images from iPhone (ios 16.5) to PC (Windows 11 Pro). I encountered the problems in all of the recent ios versions.

Problem is that the copy/backup process fails on certain images for reasons I do not know.

I tried to copy images with Windows Photo Legacy as well es the recent Windows Photo App (as recommendations are), but the process stops after some time without further notice and missing lots of images.

I also tried copying via Windows Explorer just copy/paste the contents of the DCIM over to Windows which also stops after some time.

However with this process I checked the last image/video in Windows and this was an image with size 0KB (it was the image part of a photo with live option). The same image on the iphone showed some 4 mb and although the image thumbnail was shown on the iphone trying to open the image directly from iphone gave me some image header error. I tried copying this image alone to no avail.

I tested with different options on iphone (camera with compatibility mode instead of high efficiency - but I would not expect this to change anything on an already taken image; photo mac to pc transfer setting automatic or keep originals - but no matter whether the images were copied over as heic or jpg, it just won't work on this image).

I was able though to copy the images when omitting this faulty image and a second one which also did not work (another jpg with live feature).

But weird thing is, I do have some Cloud Sync enabled (not with iCloud but with another one I am already paying for) and the sync also copied the otherwise faulty image over to the cloud (tested both heic and jpg sync) and I was able to open it from the cloud sync. In this cloud sync I miss some photos however (think it is those that have been edited on the iPhone - those with some 'E' letter in the name... not sure though). But this cloud sync renames the files to some date time so maybe there is a collision if those 'E'-images/vids do have the same timestamp.

I also have a USB-Stick (a Sandisc with iphone plug and iXpand Drive Software) which I can use to backup files over from iphone. I need to check, but on two tries it seems to me that this sync process also works without any issues.

So I wonder... is there any issue with iPhone when taking pictures or what else could cause images to become somehow "messed up"?

So far the problems seem to be related more to images than vids. Both images in my case have been taken with live option but it seems that there is no problem with the vid part. There are plenty of other live photos on the device which copy just fine.

Another weird thing is: as told... I tried to open the faulty image in Windows Explorer directly from iPhone DCIM folder which gave me an image header error. Trying to open the file again once suddenly showed me some thumbnail of view KB size, and another try just told me something like "image not available" or so... maybe the phone was busy.

I am a first time iPhone user and used to work with Android phones before... and I must say... this image sync situation is really annoying... never had any issues from Android to PC - just select the DCIM stuff and copy it... done. On the iPhone in contrast this whole photo syncing and editing and naming (how are images from WhatsApp renamed?) seems quite a mess to me...

Thx.
