Apple TV 4K - annoying cutting out (black screen)

Hi there

I use my Apple TV 4K via an A/V receiver. On a semi-regular and random occasion the picture and sound will cut out for 1-2 seconds, before then coming appearing again with whatever we were watching having progressed 1-2 seconds. Sometimes this can be a quick succession, e.g. cut out / return / cut out / return over 30 seconds or so, sometimes you can watch multiple movies and it doesn't cut out at all.

I can't see any logic to it.

Any help would be appreciated.

It may be possible that you may have a network bandwidth issue at your home. I would start by:

Reset your modem.
Reset your router.
Restart the AppleTV and test.
If the issue persists, then use a tool such as iStumbler to measure your Wi-Fi signal strength where the Apple TV is located and then check where the Modem & Router are located. If you have a bandwidth issue, consider upgrading your networking equipment.

Does it happen for some content (app/channel) but not other content?

If so, then the app or the stream itself may be the reason for it.

Try this for any misbehaving app:

Force-quit the app, then relaunch and try again.
If the issue persists, force-quit the app, restart the device, then relaunch and try again.
If the issue still persists, delete the app, re-download and try again.
If the issue still persists, then contact the app developer for further assistance.

It seems to be random - I thought it might have been the receiver, however the Apple TV 4K is now plugged directly into the TV, and it’s just done it.

definitely has done in the following apps:

Netflix

Paramount Plus

Disney+

Steam Link

Screen Mirroring (from iPhone/iPad)
