Airpods Pro (1st Gen) not staying connected after initial setup and reset.

iPhone 14 pro IOS 16.3.1 & AirPods Pro first gen, firmware version 5B59)

I'm having a connection issue with my first gen airpods pro. Both earbuds

have been replaced multiple times due to static sound, and while they

sound good and clean now, as of Saturday they're not properly pairing.

Took them in for a genius appointment because it was just the left one,

and the person cleaned the connectors in the case which got the charging

working, but now I'm stuck in this loop.

I've reset my phone, unpaired and forgot the airpods more times than i can

count, and basically where I'm at is if I unpair and reset them, they'll

work fine until I put them back in the case and close it. When I open

the case it'll show up on my phone and show them charging, but when I

put the buds in my ears, no connection and when I try to manually

connect through the bluetooth settings, nada. They're out of warranty

and the quality program is over so I won't be able to get any free

replacements, but I'm just so frustrated here. Any advice?

I appreciate the help, but even after following the steps the issue persists. To be clear, I reset my airpods, and only after the initial setup will they connect to my iphone and work, but after placing them back in the case, they will not connect via bluetooth again until I repeat the reset process.

I'm bummed because having them serviced means I'll need to pay for new equipment and at that point I'm just looking at new headphones anyways...

Hello KillerTofu88,

If your AirPods won't connect with your device, you can try these steps:

1. Make sure that your iPhone or iPod touch has the latest version of iOS or that your iPad has the latest version of iPadOS.
2. Put both AirPods in the charging case and make sure that both AirPods are charging.
3. To make sure that Bluetooth is on, go to Settings > Bluetooth.
4. If your AirPods are connected, make sure that they're selected as your audio device. If your AirPods appear in the list of devices but they don't connect, go to the next step.
5. Close the lid, wait 15 seconds, then open the lid. Press and hold the setup button on the back of the charging case for up to 10 seconds. The status light on the front of the charging case should flash white, which means that your AirPods are ready to connect.
6. Hold the charging case, with your AirPods inside and the lid open, next to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
7. Follow the steps on the screen of your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
8. Test your AirPods. If you still can't connect, reset your AirPods.

If your AirPods won't connect

It does sound like you've already gone through those steps repeatedly. If that's the case and they're still not working, then it's time to have them serviced again.

Cheers!
