MacBook Air M1 broken screen and little response from Apple Care

I purchased a MacBook Air M1 in June of 2021. In mid-2022 I was sitting and working on my MacBook and when I was done - went to close it and heard a loud crunch. It broke the bottom of the screen where the words "MacBook Air" are written, and there was no reason for the break. When I called Apple Care (which costs a lot of money) - I was told to pack up the computer and send it in. They would determine what the problem was and it would probably cost $279. When I asked multiple questions about what the process was and how to send it in, the person just kept repeating the same sentences (I'm sure from her answer book) and gave me no further information. I finally hung up with zero satisfaction. After reading some of the complaints from people about cracked screens - I am ready to contact Apple again and hopefully speak to someone with some experience and not a newbie!
