Thank you for your reply. I purchased MS Office from MS one-time with a key and it would seem that now I can only install 365. The installation process won't allow me to update either, as in multiple difficulties regardless of not wanting 365 so an incredibly stuck process. My main desire is to have a 2021 version of Office as a stand alone app/s on my laptop.

There's multiple ways to install Office on your Mac:

  • Purchase Microsoft Office 2021 from Microsoft one-time. This version won't get updates with new features, but you don't have to subscribe to Microsoft 365. The up-front cost is higher than multiple years of Microsoft 365, however.
  • Subscribe to Microsoft 365 on the web and download Office. Subscribing to Microsoft 365 grants you access to the Mac versions of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint as well as 1 TB of storage in OneDrive for less than half the cost each year of one version of Microsoft Office on its own.
  • Alternatively, you can download Microsoft Office from the Mac App Store, then sign into Microsoft 365.

If you purchased Microsoft Office 2021, you'll have to download the Mac apps to create and edit documents. If you subscribed to Microsoft 365, you can also edit and collaborate on documents on the web.

If you didn't want to install the Office applications on your Mac, then why did you purchase Microsoft Office?

Thank you again bumbleben0, I find MicroSoft to be less than friendly (no surprise I guess). Having installed the suite, I find that unless I agree to use 365 and their cloud, I can't turn on features like auto save in any of the programs. Auto save needs to be part of every program and sad that I can't use it unless I submit to dear old MS. Once again, thank you for your help.
