iTunes to recover older iPhone

How can you recover an older iPhone without iTunes? It's alternating red screen and Apple logo and requesting connection to iTunes.

iPhone 5s, iOS 12

If you are running macOS 10.15 Catalina or later device management duties have been moved into Finder. See Back up and restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your Mac or to iCloud - Apple Support.
