Apple Watch compass app keeps showing up
The compass app keeps popping up. I can’t stop it from showing up. Reboot didn’t work. Finally I turned off Always On Display and that seemed to have worked. Anyone knows a fix or having the same issue?

In My Watch app
General, Return to Clock
Set the overall one to "After 2 minutes"
Then under Compass in the list below that, select Custom, then in 'When in session' turn OFF "Return to app"

There must be an underlying problem because if turning off the Always On display is the fix, I imagine that turning off the watch would be another way to fix it.
Why is it appearing 🤔
Things to try and/or at least look at:
1 - In the watch Settings, > General, > Return to Clock. Is this set to "Always"?
2 - Dock. If you open the Dock, can you close the GPS app by sliding it to the left and hitting the red X? If you do that, are you saying that the app will just restart itself and appear on the screen as if you are using the app?
What model is your watch, what series is it? What watchOS version is it currently running?
The phone - What model and iOS version is it running?
You can find the current OS version information by going into Settings, > General, > About on both devices.
