Error installing Sierra after erase
I have an older iMac (mid 2010). It was erased, but it won’t let me reinstall macOS Sierra. At the end of the installation process I get an error saying it could not be completed. Please help

Sorry, any Mac that can run 10.12 Sierra can be updated to 10.13 High Sierra.
If you can not install any OS X, then either the drive is not formatted correctly or is failing.

It only offers Sierra. That model cannot run High Sierra

Thanks for suggestions. Apple Support helped problem solve. They are convinced that hard drive failed.
