New Mac Mini M2 loses bandwidth for WiFi connection. Other Macs worked fine in same position. Same problem with an alternate router. Disconnecting WiFi, then reconnecting sometimes fixes the issue. Other times restarting the Mac fixes it.

Does anyone else have issues with a Mac Mini M2 losing bandwidth over WiFi?

No. I am not having this issue. Here are some notes to try...

Troubleshooting Mac Wi-Fi:

A few thoughts to try...

I. Clear the Temporary Internet Files:

II. Restart your Router:

  1. Power: off the router
  2. Wait: 30 seconds
  3. Power: It back on

III. Boot in Safe Mode:

In Safe ModeLogin Items do not run at login, certain preferences are set aside, and damaged system files are then reset. So, once booted in to Safe Mode, wait 30 seconds, and then boot up normally, attempting another update install. For instructions, go here: How to Use safe Mode on your Mac - Apple Support

IV. Try a New Admin User:

What happens when you create a new administrator user, and log into it? Do you still get this error? If not, then it is likely an error with the current user. If so, then it is likely an error with your Mac.

V. Reset your SMC and your NVRAM:

(Applies to Intel-Basel Macs Only) Sometimes changes (i.e. Installations) are made to the system and then settings (i.e. Networking) become corrupted, technically. So, reset both on your Mac. So, reset the SMC and reset the NVRAM or PRAM. It might take three tries. to fix this. So, be certain you have the time to do so.

Start With This:

Same issue for me. New Mac mini M2 (base model). My wifi and network is NOT the issue and every time I work with Apple they seemingly only want to troubleshoot my internet. I have a combination of devices (windows and other M2 devices like my iPad Pro) and NONE of these devices have issues and are in the same physical area. It has to be the new wifi chip or whatever with the Mac Mini. I've tried booting with new account, safe mode, and all the other suggestions and it may work temporarily but it always comes back unstable at some point. So frustrating cause the hardware seems to work, just not reliably.

I will say however since the update on the 13th of Feb I haven't had the issue come back. So we will see....

Any Luck? Some other thoughts...

A. Time for a New Router?

How new is this router? If it's olde and obsolete (not WiFi 6), then I'd say take this as a good reason to upgrade to a newer router. Routers age overtime, as does all hardware, eventually leading to failure and incompatibly.

B. Try a Range Extender:

If the bandwidth is constantly decreasing, then try using a range extender. It would amplify the signal. Plug it in an open location (not in the corner of the room) to get optimum use of it. If you have a strong router (by model number), then get a range extender that will meet the specs of it.

C. Contact the Manufacturer:

See what the manufacturer has to say on this. Tell them what is occurring, and ask them for a swap out. It may be no more than a faulty router.

I too noticed random and slow 802.11ax bandwidth between my Synology RT6600AX router and my M2 mini pro. It would fluctuate between 67 Mbps and 800+ Mbps though usually on the low side of performance.

I have an OBI2182 Google voice desk phone that sits about 20-inches from the M2 mini pro. Both are receiving from the 802.11ax/802.11n 5Ghz SSID. Both the Mac and the OBI device are 20 feet from the router with interim drywall. When I moved the OBI phone to the same room as the router, and then set the Mac mini pro on its side with the bottom of the unit facing the router, I am now experiencing an average of 1020 Mbps which is just fine for me.
