Remote images no longer loading

macOS 12.3.1

ios 16.1.2

mail doesn’t load any remote images and does not show the message “this email has images which have not been loaded.”

I found a few topics that mention this feature has been replaced by mail privacy settings.

I turn that off to test.

I tried with the block remote images turned off(all images are still being blocked)

I tried turning it on( all images are blocked with a link that allows you to load them. However, when I click on it the link disappears and blue question marks are loaded not the images.)

my other mail client app doesn’t have this issue. Happens on Apple mail on my Mac and iPhone.

iPhone 13 Pro, iOS 16

I have these settings turned off. The odd thing is this doesn't seem to happen to all companies. In fact, most images show up on most emails fine but a few smaller companies I like to support the images have question marks instead of images and there is no message to download remote images directly. It's like this no matter what email account I view the same email in. I have like 10 for various companies I work with/for. so at first, I thought it must be the sender but I checked Google Gmail App, outlook, and several webmail apps all without any issue. The only issue seems to be with apple mail on mac os and ios. I also tried to isolate the issue by further testing in a new user account on my mac. Same issue. Also recently got a new computer and decided to not install any third-party software or import any of my old files. I set up mail and still have the same issue on a completely blank system with mail privacy turned off.

Hey RoryONEders,

Thanks to Apple Support Communities. This may be related "Protect Mail Activity".

Mail Privacy Protection hides your IP address so senders can’t link it to your other online activity or determine your exact location. It also prevents senders from seeing if you’ve opened the email they sent you.

It also downloads the remote content in the background, instead of the content downloading when the email is open. For more information about Mail Privacy Protection, review this article: Use Mail Privacy Protection on iPhone.

You can disable it by going to Settings > Mail > Privacy Protection, then tapping to turn off Mail Privacy Protection.

For steps on checking the setting on the Mac, click here: Use Mail Privacy Protection on Mac.

Take care.
