This is discussing the effects around addition of a profile, and not an iOS update.

Profiles can include all sorts of stuff, including passcode requirements.

Profiles are also a path to get hacked too, depending on where a profile came from—acquired from Apple for yourself is fine and would be expected here, but acquired from others, potentially not so much.

Data without backups is one problem away from data loss.

Without that passcode or password, without the data decryption key, the data here is lost.

There is no means to reset a lost or forgotten or otherwise unavailable passcode without resetting the contents.

There is no means to obtain a backup without the passcode or password.

This case is no different from damage or loss or theft or dunking.

Anything not already backed up, not in iCloud, or not located otherwise is gone.
