Severe mouse lag when screen mirroring

I have two user accounts. One user account has severe cursor lag which renders the screen mirroring experience unusable. This issue occurs with screen mirroring or when recording screen with OBS (and only reproduces on this one user account).

How can I mitigate this issue? I would like to continue using the affected user account and find a solution to make screen mirroring work.

I am on Mac OS 13.1.

  1. Nothing to do with hardware, as this is clearly a software problem.
  2. Related to screensharing only.
  3. Related to a specific user account."

Troubleshooting a Lagging Mouse:

In relevance to the Above.

  1. Don't mistake the my use of the word "Mouse" for "Cursor". I'm referring to the cursor.
  2. If you think that it is the hardware, then reinstalling the macOS***
  3. If you think it is related to a specific user account, then create anew one.

***Reinstalling the macOS:

Sometimes, changes are made to your Mac (i.e. uninstalls), and then settings (i.e. for power), become manipulated, technically. So, reinstalling the macOS with place moved items back to where they should be, and will replace damaged system files.

1. First, Back up your Mac:

Create a Time Machine backup of your Mac, so that you can have something to restore your Mac from, should anything go wrong with the reinstall.

2. Then, Reinstall the macOS:

Nothing would be deleted. It's just that items that have become corrupted or deleted, would be replaced or reinstalled back to where they should be. Go Here: How to reinstall macOS from macOS Recovery - Apple Support

@TheLittles It looks like the suggestion you posted is a copy/pasted suggestion for a lagging mouse. Can you please try to find advice more applicable to my problem before I proceed with B and C? I would really appreciate that due diligence.

It is not my mouse that is lagging, it is my cursor. I would expect good copy/pasted suggestions to include:

  1. Nothing to do with hardware, as this is clearly a software problem.

  3. Related to a specific user account.

You are welcome. Glad to have helped.

No. I do not work for Apple. I am just an everyday Apple user like yourself.

You can provide your feedback to Apple here: Feedback - MacBook Pro - Apple

Reinstalling the macOS would fix glitches and any bugs in the software. So, I recommend you give it a go, backing up first, prior to doing so.

Troubleshooting a Lagging Mouse:

A. Verify Compatibly:

If incompatible, it is not expected operate as desired.

B. Try Safe Mode:

In Safe Mode, login items do not run, and corrupt system files(i.e. caches) are intentionally reset as a way to fix issues

  1. Boot: in to Safe Mode: [Hold Down: shift key upon boot].
  2. Log in: as same user
  3. Wait: 30 seconds
  4. Restart; your Mac
  5. Log in: as same user

C. Remove Login Items:

While in Safe Mode, remove all of your Login Items, and then restart the Mac.  Go Here: Change Users & Groups Login Items Preferences on Mac - Apple Support

If you do work for Apple, I have the following feedback:

  1. Mouse means the physical hardware device used to control the cursor.
  2. You said "If you think that it is the hardware, then reinstalling the macOS***". I said that it is in no way a hardware problem. It has to be a software problem.
  3. Recreating a user account is not an acceptable recommendation to this problem, and I think Apple should have a higher bar for their suggestions. I would expect something like: "Please get logs from /xxx/yyy/zzz and send them to us, so our engineers can take a look at the problem." Since, this is a software bug, could this please get escalated to some engineering ticket so the root cause issue can be fixed?

I have a question though. Reinstalling MacOS I would expect to lead to the same issue, as the files are put into the same places by the Time Machine backup. Am I missing something here?
