2010 iMac mirroring icon is stuck in off in preferance

Just recently the icon for screen mirroring disapeared from menu bar..

I went to preference's to enable it and wont let me it is stuck in off only.

Hoe to fix this? I have restarted several times and if I am fast enough I can catch the icon in the menu bar but still locked in off.

any one have a solution?

You say that the Preferences dialog won't let you turn the mirroring menu option on. But your snapshot shows that the option is on. Note the words "when available." If you don't have a second monitor connected and powered on, I don't believe that you're going to see mirroring preferences in the menu bar, regardless of the setting of the checkbox.

I am not sure how you assumed it was in the on position. I can assure you that it is in the off position.

i. Fact it does not even offer an (on) position.

sadly, from what I can see the snippet does not show the whole dialogue box.

my TV is connected to the same network as is my iPhone and I can cast from my phone to the iMac and the TV.

I am not sure how this stopped working, there have been no notice of unsupported 2010 iMac alerts.

I did try the go to folder option and the icon would appear just momentarily.
