Hello Ssor1960,

Thanks for posting in the Apple Support Communities. We're happy to look into this with you. To clarify, the iOS version showing installed on your iPhone 12 is which one, iOS 16.3 or 16.4? This is important for us know, since menus and options can vary by iOS version.

Have you tried connecting your iPhone to your computer while it's showing the "Hello" screen? If so, does anything happen? If not, you may want to try placing the iPhone in recovery mode by following the process below to see if that helps you get your iPhone restored.

If you can't update or restore your iPhone or iPod touch - Apple Support

Put your device in recovery mode and set it up again

1. Make sure that your Mac is up to date. If you're using iTunes, make sure you have the latest version of iTunes

2. On a Mac with macOS Catalina or later, open Finder. On a Mac with macOS Mojave or earlier, or on a PC, open iTunes. If iTunes is already open, close it, then open it again. Find out which macOS your Mac is using.

3. Keep your device connected and wait until the recovery mode screen appears:

- iPhone 8 or later, including iPhone SE (2nd generation): Press and quickly release the volume up button. Press and quickly release the volume down button. Then, press and hold the side button until you see the recovery mode screen.

- iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, and iPod touch (7th generation): Press and hold the top (or side) and volume down buttons at the same time. Keep holding them until you see the recovery mode screen.

- iPhone 6s or earlier, including iPhone SE (1st generation), and iPod touch (6th generation) or earlier: Press and hold both the Home and the top (or side) buttons at the same time. Keep holding them until you see the recovery mode screen.

4. Locate your device on your computer. When you see the option to Restore or Update, choose Update. Your computer will try to reinstall the software without erasing your data. Wait while your computer downloads the software for your device. If the download takes more than 15 minutes and your device exits the recovery mode screen, let the download finish, then repeat step 3.

A Finder window on a Mac showing options to restore or update your iPhone.

5. After the Update or Restore completes, set up your device.

If you continue to experience issues after giving recovery mode a try, contacting Apple Support for additional help, would be best. You can reach them at Get Support.

Best regards.

Ssor1960,

You stated you’re receiving a message that says, “Your iPhone has been update to IOS 16.4”. Have you installed a beta profile?

When you were working through the setup screens, did you have chance to disconnect your iPhone from your computer first? If not, let’s do that and take that connection out of the equation.

Another thing to check based on the message you’re seeing about disabling Find My is to have you log in to the Manage your Apple ID website and verify if you can se the sign in there. Check your Apple ID device list to find where you're signed in

Use the web to find where you're signed in
From the Devices section of your Apple ID account page, you can find all of the devices that you're currently signed in to with your Apple ID, including Android devices, consoles, and smart TVs:
1. Sign in to appleid.apple.com,* then select Devices.
2. If you don’t see your devices right away, click View Details and answer your security questions.
3. Click any device name to view that device's information, such as the device model, serial number, OS version, and whether it's a trusted device that can be used to receive Apple ID verification codes. The information might vary depending on the device type.

Thanks.

Hi Missy5937,

Thanks for your reply .. as per the title the iPhone 12 has IOS16.3 installed.

Also, as per the message I have already tried recovery mode and no change .. refer statements in the initial post.

With the phone at the hello screen and connected to itunes. itunes can see the phone but if I try and restore from backup it states I need to turn off - find my phone first, and of course I can't do that as I can't get past the hello screen. Currently the phone is a brick .. not sure what to do
