SMB File Sharing is now broken
Apple with another stellar OS update breaking stuff. Nice work guys, you managed to break arguably the single most important feature for large enterprises and business users.
I've spent the better part of 30 hours troubleshooting file share. Below are some of the steps I've tried with no solution:
- Complete diagnostic with Apple customer service and what they call a "Senior Developer" whom by the way, my knowledge of Mac OS far exceeds.
- Toggle File Share server on/off
- Removing custom folder icons and restarting (read somewhere that it works, and it does but only for the server to disconnect right away)
- Safe mode reboot
- Remove and reset all alias folders by deleting the previous ones and syncing new folders to the servers
Nothing is working, something big is severely wrong with 13.2. I hope Apple releases a patch for this as soon as possible. Generally speaking, why are Apple products losing quality year after year. Sad really, seems like their OS is spaghetti code and they're building technology on top of legacy issues without ever correcting the core issues. They need to completely scrap and overhaul their OS. Things just aren't working anymore.
Separately, the server issue has been causing OS crashes and hang ups, and sometimes when I try to reboot the finder my entire computer will crash. I have a 2021 M2 Pro Macbook with 32gb ram, this should not be happening.
