4th generation iPod will not go into DFU mode for restoration via iTunes

My iPod touch battery was completely depleted and now iTunes says it is in restoration mode but won't restore it due not being in DFU mode. I held power and home buttons as instructed but it won't go into DFU mode. The screen just shows iTunes symbol with USB plug to attach to iTunes on my computer (Windows 10). What's next, anything?
