Sometimes when I type letters from the top row of my iPhone (qwertyuiop), I will get a number instead. How do I stop this from happening? I realize it may be a short cut but its annoying because it happens all the time causing me to have to spend time correcting typos. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Yes. This is all when I'm texting. I remember reading something a while back that said, this is a short cut so you don't have to switch to the 123 button the bottom of the keyboard...you just swipe up on the qwertyuiop letters.

Are you using the standard on-screen keyboard? Do the numbers even appear on the keyboard?
What do you have on the list at settings > general > keyboard > keyboards
my phone says there are two keyboards, English (US) set to "QWERTY" and Gboard which is set to "Allow full access"

Remove Gboard.
