This problem has been discussed elsewhere but the proposed solution hasn't helped. Anyhow, my phone will randomly burst into an annoying multi-note notification sound, even though there is no notification on the screen or in the Notification Center. Today it went off a dozen times in a 10-min period. Previous suggestions said turn off sounds for notifications on every app but that still doesn't prevent the random tone.

Troubleshooting Random Audio Chimes:
Clear your caches. The caches remember what happened a when. To do so, clear the storage named "Other" (now called "System Data" in more-recent iOS versions). Perform my User Tip: How to Clear "Other" in your iPhone's Storage - Use Backup - User Tip
Report back the results.

Set this Up Anew:
Set this device up anew, as if you were to sell it. Perform as instructed here, including the iCloud logout: What to do Before you Sell, Give Away, or Trade In your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support. Once reset, sign back in. Then phone number will not be rid of. Thinks will be reset, and a misconfiguration seems to be the issue here.
