Hi f_nimer & apple community,

I also recently purchased the (amazing) HomePod in late Feb. After spending a few days being frustrated that I could not activate the advertised 6 Months Free offer of Apple Music I called the Apple Support line yesterday. I was on the phone twice (disconnected once) well over an hour and spoke to 6 individuals who all walked me through the activation process for the Offer and were all stumped as to why I could not get the Offer to come up under the "Listen Now" tab in Apple Music.

Could it be that I had also purchased a Homepod Mini for my Mom's Christmas present in Dec? No, we set her HomePod mini up under her own AppleID, and she is now happily experiencing the 6 Month Free Offer. Although we are on Family Sharing, an Apple Music Individual subscription cannot be shared, you must have a Family Music plan...I get it.

This is all to say I read the rules. No where in the HomePod Offer does it say anything about a "New" Apple Music subscriber as being someone who has not purchased a day of Apple Music nor ever activated a Music Subscription in THREE YEARS. How did the first 5 people I spoke with also not know this information? If Apple had stated this upfront in their sales literature, or even in the small print I would not to be as frustrated with them as I am right now. It feels like a total Bait & Switch. If it were any other company other than Apple I would say they were sloppy...but I know Apple is not sloppy, so it is being done with full knowledge and that is just very sad for me. I am an Apple fan & daily user from the late 1980's, an Apple stock owner and to write an actual complaint about Apple feels very hurtful to myself. It's only $66 dollars but it's the principle of following through with what you are stating in 48 pt text, not hiding behind obscure rules. Apple needs to be clear and concise about what a New subscriber is for them in legal terms upfront. I'm posting this so other people won't waste their time with all this nonsense and wonder why they can't activate the offer. It is not a software glitch, it is a sneaky way of getting out of Apple's side of the incentive.

I'm enjoying my HomePod, but with much dampened enthusiasm.

Hello f_nimer,

Thank you for posting in Apple Support Communities.

Just to confirm, did the trial end after 1 month or did it only offer a 1-month subscription from the start?

If it only offered a 1-month subscription, you will want to follow the steps here: If you can't redeem your promotion for an Apple subscription - Apple Support

As you can see here, the promotion is still available: Offers - Apple

If the free trial ended unexpectedly after 1 month, you will want to check to see if the free trial was canceled by mistake. To do that, go to Settings > Your name at the top > Subscriptions. Does Apple Music show canceled there?

If it does not show canceled but is no longer working, or if the steps in the article we provided doesn’t help, we recommend reaching out to Apple Support so they can look into this in more detail. You can do that here: Contact - Official Apple Support

Kindest regards.
