Ding ding instead of map directions

Has anyone found a solution for the problem where spoken directions are replaced by ding dong sound while listening to an Amazon Music podcast?

Hi JRW2020,

There's information in this resource that mentions the option to pause podcasts for directions. Choosing to pause podcasts may help fix the behavior you've described: If Maps isn't working on your Apple device.

If you have trouble with spoken directions on your iOS or iPadOS device

1. In the Settings app, tap Maps.

2. Tap Spoken Directions.

3. Select your options, like whether to pause podcasts for directions or whether to hear directions through your vehicle's radio.

Turn Spoken Directions on or off by tapping the audio button on the map after you start turn-by-turn navigation. See which countries or regions support turn-by-turn navigation.

Thank you. That was one of the first things I tried. I finally figured it out:

Amazon music is taking over the sound inout and output when listening to a podcast in the car.

This is not an Apple issue. I had to

Open the Amazon Music app
click the settings gear icon
click Settings
Toggle “Hands Free Alexa” to Off

Before doing this Apple Maps - which is awesome - had become almost unusable while listening to a Podcast through Amazon Music.

I mistakenly thought it was either an Apple Issue or one that could be resolved through iPhone settings. Now everything is normal again.
