My Blu-ray device works. I can write data to it and read it back in. That's not the problem. The problem is the icon is missing from the desktop. The only item that is noticeable is the title, as seen below after a burn.
If you select the item (i.e., click on it), it displays this:
I believe that even according to Apple's HIG this is not right.
It should be pretty easy to fix.

Is this isolated to your Blu-ray projects?
Is there third party software involved...?
Displaying Blu-ray icons has been broken since Catalina. The same disks that work just fine in Mojave and earlier don't in Catalina and later. Obviously, Apple changed something where they aren't accessing the disk's icon from the correct location.
But, there is a way to make it work for disks you create, as it appears you're doing.

As you'll see, it does require using Toast. At least, as the only burning app I tested with. Other's may work, but I can't confirm that.

No, this is only a Mac OS problem with Blu-ray disks. As reported over the years.

I see the same thing on my Blu-ray discs. This is normal with latest OS. Many others have reported the same. It is OK with normal discs.
