Western Digital hard drive not accepting password

I bought this 2TB WD my passport external hard drive as a backup drive and for some old data from my previous computers.

when first attracted me on my mac, it asked if i want to encrypt my data, so formatted it as APFS and then encrypted it.

I updated my mac to latest version and now my drive is not accepting its password and all of my data is stuck. I am pretty sure that I am using right password and I can’t even mount it after couple failed attempts.

Tried to run first aid but not working. Any suggestion is appreciated.

Has the user kept the Password written done some place else ?

Has the user verified the CAP Lock on keyboard is not ON ?

Reading from the article in below link - it seems to imply, if the Password to Decrypt the drive is not working, there is very little option but to Erase the Drive and start again.
