System crash had to hard power down

Macmini7,1 Dual-Core Intel Core i5 2.6 GHz

On 18/1/23 I had a system crash that froze until I held down the power button and system shut down.

This is a fresh system on a new SSD, with only 3 applications open. Safari, Balena Etcher and opening Notes was the occasion for the crash.

Crash report shows these was a kernel panic, throttling.

Monterey 12.6.2 was about to restart on shutdown which may have added to system stress.

In console the log identifies the shutdown log but it is missing on restart.

I suspect that because the Internal Drive was replaced with an After Market Drive " WDC WDS500G1B0A-00H9H0 500.11 GB (Solid State - TRIM: Yes) " that could be to Root Cause

Background, the Monterey Installer contains an EFI Boot ROM that verifies if anApple Original Drive is the Destination Drive which the Western Digital Drive is NOT.

The EFI Boot ROM must Flash the Computer and NOT the Drive itself.

Without the Flashing of Computer process taking place - the Installation may fail or abort or in you case Crash the System.

I know of only one way around that.

Replace the WD Drive with an Original Apple Drive and run the Monterey Installer to that Drive

Reverse the above and use the After Market Drive and install Monterey to that Drive
