MacBook Pro waking while lid is closed - Wake Reason: EC.DarkPME (Maintenance)

My mid 2015 MBP running macOS Monterey 12.6.2 is consistently waking up while the lid is closed. The laptop feels hot and the battery drains relatively quickly.

Running the logs gives the wake reason: EC.DarkPME (Maintenance) most commonly, but has this pattern consistently, occurring pretty much every minute while on battery power with the lid closed. I am not opening the laptop at all during this time.

I have tried some of the other solutions posted in older discussions such as setting autopoweroff to 0 but with no luck. This laptop has run without any major issues since I got it in 2016. Any other ideas would be appreciated, thanks!

Hi there sqeeg,

If your Mac is waking while the lid is closed, we'd suggest running Apple Diagnostics to see if you can find any hardware-related issues. You can follow the steps in this support article to do so: Use Apple Diagnostics to test your Mac - Apple Support

Next, we'd also suggest checking the battery health of your Mac with these steps:

To view your battery’s condition, choose Apple menu  > System Preferences, click Battery , then click Battery again.

In the lower right corner, click Battery Health. You may see any of the following conditions:
- Normal: The battery is functioning normally.
- Service recommended: The battery is performing normally, but its ability to hold a charge is less than when it was new. You may want to consider replacing the battery.

You'll find those steps here: Check the condition of your Mac notebook’s battery - Apple Support

Let us know what you find.

Take care.
