Cannot login to gmail on my iPhone

Resolution: Google Security sends an email alert about attempted access from 3rd party apps (aka your iPhone). You must click “check activity” and confirm your iPhone. Then trust the device on the next page.

Then, go back to iPhone Settings and add the email account - you won’t be prompted for/by the accounts.YouTube.com server.

Thanks a lot for posting all those details! I’m amazed you got this error. You’ve done everything exactly right.

If that happened to me, here’s what I would try:

Settings > Safari > Clear History & Website Data

Then try adding the account again.

If that fails (I don’t expect it to fail), then if you have a YouTube app on the iPhone, open the app, tap your profile photo or initial in the upper right, tap your account name toward the very top, and choose “Use YouTube signed out”. Then try adding the account again.

I’m having the exact same scenario, but not resolved by:

altering the safari settings, clearing browser history, removing web data, resetting JavaScript in safari, restarting phone, rebooting router, blocking or allowing cookies,

and:

I do not have the YouTube app installed on my phone - don’t even have a YouTube account.

(?) why is the new email account flow using safari for credential authentication on gmail.com?

(?) and why is safari redirecting to accounts.YouTube.com server instead of google’s server?

Really? Safari is not involved in the process I described above.

At exactly what step in that process did you see the error message?
