How to retrieve missing iPad notes after iCloud Sync

Was anyone able to get a resolution to this issue? Apple support basically told me to go to Gmail to see if they can help restore since my icloud account is my gmail. Not sure how to even go about this, absolutely insane to me that apple would not have a solution for this. I only intended to sync but obviously that has a different meaning for Apple, it quite literally means replace and tough luck. so disappointed, if anyone has any solutions please share. I have months work on there.

For anyone finding this in 2024, this just happened to me as well when trying to sync my mac notes. Absolutely terrible. I have lost notes from over a year and a half. Lesson learned in trusting apple software. To anyone else experiencing this, I am very sorry, this is truly egregious and poor software design.

Apple notes app has completely wiped out my most recent notes, after synching across devices, I have been looking to migrate from Evernote and Goodnotes. I had painstakingly created note templates to streamline my work on my iPad, and now they’re gone—lost forever. This has happened twice in just two days! How hard is it for Apple to acknowledge that there’s a serious flaw here, it looks like it's been happening for years? Someone needs to get their act together and implement a fallback system —something that saves conflicted notes somewhere safe instead of just vanishing into thin air. This ongoing mess has shaken my trust completely in what should be the most reliable notes app, I'm loathe to create any new notes. It’s unacceptable.

I just had the issue on my iPad mini,

I scanned documents on my IPad notes app and turned on sync, just see all the notes I created on the IPad before the sync disappeared!!! it seems this bug has not been fixed and it is annoying. Please how do I get my notes with scanned documents back??

I contacted Apple Support and to their credit, they were very patient and spent over an hour trying to figure out how to retrieve the missing notes. Unfortunately it is not possible in my case, and countless others, I suspect. The notes are just gone forever after “synching” to the cloud :-(

Hey so what your going to do is your going to have to rest the device and choose from one of the previous backups when re setting up the device I just had 5 versions of back up praise God thought I lost everything years of work

i have the same problem and this is not helping at all, is there actually a solution? i mean this is absurd.......all i did is turn on the sync, its supposed to add the notes that are on iCloud to my existing ones instead of making all my current notes on iPad vanish out of air.....(n when i turn it on it doesn't even have a confirm/warning button for this) please fix this????

This happen to me 5 minutes ago and its my class notes that disappear and I have nothing to study for the coming up exams in 3 days. I have no any other backup too. Please does anyone know how to recover them? All I wanted to create a back up of my notes in iPad in my iPhone. This is just absurd.

I had similar issue of disappearing notes from my iPad when I synced the notes to iCloud. Please Apple support kind help retrieve those notes, as they were valuable resource notes taken in my class

I lost all the last months data, which is a LOT. In Israel the Apple service caused me to lose everything and they didn’t take ANY responsibility, very disappointing

This is exactly what just happened to me!!! Years of notes in the making gone :( still no fix!!!

Just happened to me too, I followed another community leader instructions to toggle iCloud sync on and off now the most important notes are all gone.
