Studio Display on all night with my M1 mini - wasting energy

The only way to get the Apple Studio Display to power completely off is to unplug it from power, as detailed in the Apple Support article about the display Important safety information Apple Studio Display - Apple Support.

That said, you should be able to put the display to sleep using the macOS Lock Screen settings. The Apple Support article Change Lock Screen settings on Mac - Apple Support discusses what the various Lock Screen settings can do, and where to adjust them. Specific to your request, try the following:

1. Open System Settings > Lock Screen (in macOS Venture) or System Preferences > Security and Privacy > General (in previous macOS versions)
2. In macOS Venture, select the option to Turn Display off when inactive. You can select how long the computer is idle before going to sleep.
3. In previous versions of macOS, find the options to require a password upon wake. Within this area should be an option to indicate how long the computer should be idle before the display goes to sleep.

As a temporary workaround, perhaps use a switched power plug for the display, something similar to these available at Amazon: On/Off Switch Plug or this Switched Flat Power Plug.

It should not be waking up unless something is moving the mouse, bumping the table, even a pet, or another setting such as Wake for Network Access. Check your settings: Set sleep and wake settings for your Mac - Apple Support

Also, was the computer designed to power on at a set time? This can be removed using terminal commands now: Schedule your Mac to turn on or off in Terminal - Apple Support

Otherwise, it might make sense to just power down the mouse using the button. Test if this helps stop the Mac from waking.
