If I delete the photos and messages on my device are they still saved on the cloud

If I back up all my stuff is it safe to delete it off my device to free up space and able to retrieve any photo and messages back from the cloud

If you have one device then anything deleted from the device will be removed from iCloud.

Backup your stuff to an external drive before deleting from your device.
