Merging iTunes and iCloud content

How do I merge my iTunes account and my iCloud account to be the same account, and not lose any content?

My iTunes account pre-dates iCloud (and Me.com), so when I got iCloud, I ended up with two separate accounts, one that has all of my purchases media content, and one that has my email, calendar, contacts, etc. Would love it, if I could merge the two into one account, and not lose anything. Does anyone know how to do this?

Yes, I understand what the two accounts are, but I’m tired of having my life complicated by two Apple IDs because I had iTunes before iCloud was a thing. I don’t understand why the two can’t be merged to simplify my life. Feels like punishment for being a loyal customer.

Your Apple ID is the personal account you use with all Apple products and services. It includes the email address and password you use to sign in, as well as the contact, payment, and security details that you use with Apple.

You can’t merge multiple Apple ID accounts.
