Homekit location and automations

I have automations set up for when i leave and arrive home but they never seem to work. At first i thought it might have been location settings, but I checked and it’s set to when app is open and there is no setting for always on. Could that be the reason they never work i have a homepod in my room which is always on unless the power runs out has anyone else had these issues

HomePod mini, 16

Mine works, by default it should work 100 m away HomePod location but before 16.2 update I could set any distance what was much more convenient. I could set 200 m away and it had always enough time to set my automation on. When 100 m is set now very often my external lightning comes on too late when it makes no sense for me, most often when I am already inside 20 m away from my HomePod. After last OS update you never know what might it be…

Hi there ChrussTheTruss,

If location-based automations are not working as expected, we would recommend looking over the following troubleshooting steps since they can resolve unexpected behavior like this.

First, ensure your HomePod is set up as a home hub using the steps outlined here: Set up your HomePod, HomePod mini, Apple TV, or iPad as a home hub

Let's also update all the devices you use with HomeKit and the HomePod itself. These walk you through how to do this:

Update HomePod

Update your iPhone or iPad

Lastly, enable the following settings on the primary iOS devices that are used with HomeKit since they are needed for location-based automations:

• Settings > [your name] > Share My Location > From > "This Device"

• Settings > Privacy > Location Services > Home > While Using

• Settings > Privacy > Location Services > System Services > HomeKit > On

If this continues to occur after completing those steps, then Apple Support would be the best equipped to investigate this further. Reach out here: Apple Support

Take care.
