Play all songs in search result

On an iPhone in iOS 16.2, Apple Music, is there a way to play all the songs in a search result one after the other, rather than just the first? I can get just the first played followed by “similar songs”, but not the ones in my search results. I have seen this question answered for OS X but not for iOS.

Thanks for your reply. With regard to your suggestion about building a playlist, that is what I have been doing, but it seems to be a rather clumsy and time-consuming solution.

You and others may wonder why I would want to be able to play all search results in succession. With certain pieces of classical music, particularly instrumental, I am very interested in hearing different arrangements to compare with each other. It should be a matter of performing a search for the song or piece, then playing them one after the other. However, as mentioned in my original post, playback stops after the first search result and then each search result must be played with manual intervention after that. As you suggested, I can create a playlist by selecting each search result individually.

This isn't really a complaint or grumble, just a plea to anyone who might have figured out a workaround, or to have someone point out something that I may be overlooking.

Hey the_brewer,

The best way to play songs in a specific order would be to create a playlist for them. You can find your options on that here: How to make a playlist in the Apple Music app

"Create a playlist on your iPhone, iPod touch, or Android device

  1. Open the Apple Music app.
  2. At the bottom of your screen, tap Library.
  3. Tap Playlists.
  4. Tap New Playlist.
  5. Give your playlist a name, then tap Add Music.
  6. Find the music that you want to add.
  • On iPhone or iPod touch, tap the music you want, then tap Done. If you add music directly from the search box, tap Cancel, then tap Done.
  • On Android, tap the music you want to add, then tap Done The checkmark icon on Android .

You can also touch and hold a song, album, or playlist. Then tap Add to a Playlist to add the music to an existing one, or tap New Playlist. Or you can touch and hold on a playlist to download, share, or delete it."

Thanks!

Hello the_brewer,

Thanks for posting in the Apple Support Communities.

We understand you're looking for an easier workaround to play multiple search options to compare the songs, right?

While we don't have a direct resolution for you, you can choose which songs to play next as if it were a playlist. This may help in reducing the time spent removing versions of songs you'd rather not keep, so check out the steps below for assistance with doing that. We'll include the related resource if you'd like to review it as well, here: Add music to your queue to play next on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Android device - Apple Support

Choose what you want to play next

1. Open the Apple Music app and play music.

2. Find a song, album, or playlist that you want to play next.

3. When you find something, touch and hold it, then choose when you want it to play:

• To play your selection right after the song that’s playing, tap Play Next the Play Next icon.

• To move your selection to the bottom of your music queue, tap Play Last the Play Last icon.

In addition, you can provide feedback directly to Apple if you have a suggestion on improving the experience for you. If you'd like to do that, use the following link: Product Feedback - Apple

Have a great day!
