Can not back up iPhone

When I try to Back up my iPhone (XR 128 MG) to my computer I get the message that out vis locked and it cannot back up. I then unlock it and try agin and get the sumner results. After three tries I quit and am sending this message. I am on the most recent IOS

You can't even see the iPhone on the iMac until it is unlocked and how it could get locked while it is running the backup doesn't make sense


You need to unlock the iPhone:

Turn your iPhone On and unlock it -> enter the passcode.

Then go to Settings -> Display and Brightness  -> Auto-Lock -> Never.
