convert old quicktime movies

The challenge: I was writing a presentation and wished to use some quicktime movies. The new QT player will not recognise or open them.

I found out to my annoyance that apple has changed/discontinued the quicktime format.

What mac software is out there to convert old (circa 2004) quicktime movies into something playable?

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 11.7

I think HandBrake is very versatile in this regard. It takes many input formats, and has .mp4 output option, and good presets.
